THE FATHER
How could you know what you have asked of me
Could risk it all and alter everything
So much to lose if I let you go
Nothing to gain if I make you stay
THE YOUNGER SON
(Spoken) You can’t make me stay
THE FATHER
For all I know, and all I’ve taught to you
Could I have guessed it’s me who’s torn in two?
I recognize the eyes of a boy
But who is this man standing before me?
You would go and I would wave goodbye
To priceless years and the best life I have known
Once alone, what questions would arise
How dare you ask? And why ask now?
And how could I not say yes?
So what’s the use of my great plans for you
If, in your eyes, you don’t see greatness too?
I could be proud
I could be grieved
But I’ll let you go
Extravagantly
