In the night, when the only thing my spirit can see is the scattered and decaying debris of dreams that I’ve lost,
And the light reveals enemies I thought were my friends, criticising all I live to defend,
How can I go on?
Help me stand when it’s more than I can do not to fall,
Jesus, hear my call,
Help me stand when adversity’s on every hand, and I’ve done all I can,
Help me stand, help me stand.
At the time when my vision fades into a mirage and integrity becomes a façade, when right appears wrong,
And in my mind, I can hear the jeering voice of despair saying, “Only fools endeavour to care,”
How can I go on?
Help me stand when it’s more than I can do not to fall,
Jesus, hear my call,
Help me stand when adversity’s on every hand, and I’ve done all I can,
Help me stand.
This life is a swift and terrible race,
Death comes to all; there’s no hiding place,
In the valley of shadows, I reach for your hand,
Show me your face, and by your grace…
I will stand when it’s more than I can do not to fall,
Jesus, hear my call,
Help me stand when adversity’s on every hand,
When I’ve done all I can,
Help me stand when it’s more than I can do not to fall,
Jesus, hear my call,
Help me stand when adversity’s on every hand,
When I’ve done all I can, help me stand.
